Cucumbers are my garden celebrities, they shine, they are visible from every corner of the garden box and they definitely want to be seen and play a number one all the time. The cucumbers leaves grow over everything and the crop is countless. I love the cucumbers for their universal application that I use in juices, cocktails or garden salads. I bring them for lunches and just snack on them at work. I enjoy them in water that I have on the table, or carry with me all day long. Universal masking made my skin more problematic this spring and summer, but since I started loading on cucumber juices and salads I noticed a visible effect of more clear and plump skin.

Cucumbers are water-rich and have a large amount of vitamins and minerals in their skin, which I do not remove when I eat them.

The cucumber seeds have a diuretic effect, the green skin color has its intensity from chlorophyll and you will also find cholesterol decreasing sterols right in the outside layer which as I grow in my garden I consume with relative safety.

Interestingly, the cucumber through its hydrating and mild diuretic effect may help preventing urinary infections and build up of stones in the kidney and bladder.

And of course who did not hear about cucumber creams, lotions and skin tonics? The main idea behind that is the hydrating and balancing, cooling and soothing effect on skin. I think that benefit may be well-felt on a hot summer day after applying cucumber slices to irritated, warm skin. While I like masks, tonics and creams with cucumber as one of the main ingredients, I think that the maximum benefit of this healthy and easy to grow vegetable is by consuming it in summer and all year long.

Video below shows my cucumber (and tomato) art project.
